Gun Violence Prevention

The GVP Action Group at TBZ is committed to deepening our understanding of the impact of  gun violence, regardless of how close we are to the  “target”. The ripple effects of gun violence are staggering; they extend to public health, mental health,  the economy, criminal justice, education, and racial equity.  We believe that greater understanding leads to action and strengthens our impact on this deeply challenging issue.

We partner with the following groups:

  • The Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence – Most recently, we worked with the Coalition to pass state and federal legislative bills that would strengthen current gun laws and close loop holes. Legislative priorities for 2021-2022  include: access to firearms, juvenile justice reform, and the  intersection of trauma and gun violence. Advocacy priorities are geared to addressing the root causes of  violence.
  • The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute – The Institute fills a huge gap in services in providing highly effective services for gun violence survivors (victims and perpetrators). Additionally, it advocates to promote healing and create peaceful, healthier communities. TBZ has supported the Institute’s Mother’s Day Annual Walk Fundraiser since 2018.

PLEASE JOIN US!  We have an active and engaged group and the need is great! Contact tikkunolam@tbzbrookline.org.
