Morning Minyan

We have two morning minyan (prayer) options at TBZ, one daily (Boker Tov) and one weekly (Eay, Pray and Learn). Read on for information about both:

Boker Tov TBZ is our weekday morning minyan. Rav Claudia began it as a zoom service during the pandemic and it has stayed that way. At 8:00am every weekday, we gather for thirty minutes in front of our computers, each in our own Zoom box, to recite and sing together a selection of prayers from the traditional shacharit (morning) service.

We are active in our praying – in fact, three times a week the community leads services for itself. We begin with a practice of gratitude, sharing in the chat the joys that each day brings. Ashrei is sung in two voices with the help of a volunteer from the group, and we recite the Shema together. We are an unorthodox minyan: some attend with tefillin (phylacteries), others with only a tallit (prayer shawl), and still others without even that. The Amidah prayer is our moment of silent contemplation, even for those reading the traditional text. We also find time for a few words of Torah along the way. The service concludes with the Mourner’s Kaddish.

Like everything at TBZ, however, it is much more than that. Boker Tov is also a community of friends who meet every day. We are committed not just to praying together, but to each other personally. Each morning, we are also joined by people who want to say Kaddish that day or who simply enjoy dropping in to be with us once in a while. Everyone is welcome. After the prayers, those with time spend a few more minutes in each other’s company, shmoozing in chat rooms.

Boker Tov TBZ, thirty minutes of prayer and meditation in community, is a great way to start the day. We invite you to join us.

Join us on Zoom at 8:00am!

Eat, Pray, and Learn is our weekly in-person minyan, followed by breakfast and study. Meeting on Wednesdays at 8:00am in the TBZ sanctuary, the joyful and intentional shacharit (morning) service is led by Rav Claudia. Around 8:45am, participants make their way downstairs, grab a bagel, and learn together. The session ends by 10:00am. All are welcome! Contact Rochelle in the TBZ office to be added to the Eat, Pray, and Learn email list.
