Marking October 7: A Community Evening of Remembrance and Reflection (in person)

October 7, 2026
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join members of Congregation Dorshei Tzedek, Sinai Brookline, Hillel B’nei Torah, and TBZ for an evening of remembrance, reflection, and conversation as we mark the anniversary of October 7th. Rabbis Toba Spitzer, Andy Vogel, Aliza Schwartz, and Claudia Kreiman will begin with a brief ceremony honoring the lives lost, those taken hostage, and those whose lives have been forever changed by the events of that day and its aftermath. Then we will watch Holding Liat, the 2025 award-winning documentary directed by Brandon Kramer. The film follows the Israeli-American family of Liat Beinin Atzili after she and her husband, Aviv, were kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023. Through the family’s experience, the film captures the anguish of captivity, the efforts to advocate for her release, and the emotional and ideological complexities that emerge as a family and community navigate an unimaginable moment. The film invites us to sit with the complexity of October 7th and its aftermath: the trauma, the human stories behind the headlines, and the difficult questions facing Israelis, Palestinians, and all of us trying to find a way forward.
