TBZ’s 11th Annual Women’s Retreat:

Yeridah LeTzorech Aliyah: Women Rising (MultiAccess)

Our tradition teaches the concept of “yeridah le’tzorech aliyah” descent for the sake of rising up. This year was an important year for people who experience the world as women. On one hand, there were many first women risings, including Massachusetts’ first woman governor, showing how high women can go. Yet, we have also descended back into a world without the protection of Roe V. Wade for female-bodied people. Join us for a half-day retreat for support for those times of descent (and dissent!) and sustenance for the rise.

Our special guest will be Rachel Stomel of the Center for Women’s Justice in Israel. In addition to our fantastic TBZ women, she will lead us in creative practice with spoken word poetry, teach Torah on the theme of consent in an environment of asymmetrical power (you can read an introduction to the idea in her article #MeToo at Mount Sinai), and speak to us about her own experience as an agunah (a Jewish woman stuck in her religious marriage as determined by Jewish law) and how she has used this experience to join together with others in the battle to secure women’s rights in Israel.

We hope you join us for some or all of the day!
