Purim celebrates venahafoch hu “It was turned around,” or reversed (Esther, 9:1) as those who had ruled over the Jews of Shushan ended up being ruled by the Jews of Shushan! Adult children often experience a similar feeling of role reversal as their parents continue to age. Where once they were concerned about our safety, we worry about their safety. Where once they pushed us in strollers, we push them in wheelchairs. Where we once struggled with them to be seen as independent, they struggle with us to remain independent. Join Rav Tiferet and TBZ Member Daniel Langenthal in creating a safe space for people going through this reversal with parents to share what feelings are coming up for you about their aging and this new responsibility. Marjorie Raskin from Jewish Family & Children Services will address practical questions and concerns and share resources available to support adult children in their expanding role as caregivers for their parents, even for parents with limited financial resources.
