Human Rights Shabbat – Dec 9

Human Rights Shabbat is co-sponsored by T’ruah, an organization of rabbis and cantors who strive toward a world built on community care and justice. It is an annual initiative to educate Jewish communities about the intersection of Jewish values and universal human rights. Started in 2007, Human Rights Shabbat falls before International Human Rights Day, the yearly celebration of the passage of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Human Rights Shabbat is a moment for congregations, organizations, and individuals to dedicate a Shabbat experience to human rights. Shabbat morning services will include a reading of the Declaration of Human Rights and a d’var Torah by TBZ member Rabbi Carol Glass, connecting Parshat Vayeshev to human rights. We will also have a kiddush talk with participants from Families for Justice as Healing and the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, organizations that focus on individuals who have been adversely impacted by the criminal justice system.
