Religious Zionism and Jewish Power in Israel since October 7 (in person and online)

May 6, 2024
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Co-sponsored by JStreet and Congregation Dorshei Tzedek

Religious discourse in Israel since the attacks of October 7 is deeply focused on national pride and vengeance, topics that lay at the center of Manekin’s recent study of his Religious Zionist community. This talk will share the insights of his book, ask how that discourse developed, and suggest alternatives to it that are both Zionist and faithful to Jewish tradition. The evening will be moderated by TBZ Member Jed Shugerman, Professor of Law and Joseph Lipsitt Scholar, Boston University School of Law.

Mikhael Manekin is the director of the Alliance Fellowship program, an Arab-Jewish political network in Israel, and is one of the leaders of the Faithful Left movement, a movement of religious Jews in Israel promoting equality through the language of Jewish faith and tradition. His book “End of Days: Ethics, Tradition and Power in Israel” appeared in English in late 2023. He is currently a Religion and Public Life Fellow at the Harvard Divinity School.
