Mickey Gitzin Talk and Kiddush Lunch (in person)

April 15, 2023
12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Join NIF and Temple Beth Zion to hear from our Director in Israel

Saturday, April 15th

10:00 am: Services Begin

12:00 pm (approx.): Remarks

1:00 pm (approx.): In conversation with Senior Rabbi Claudia Kreiman over Kiddush

With Netanyahu’s extremist government intent on implementing their anti-democratic, autocratic, ethnonationalist vision, (the pre-Passover “delay” on the judicial overhaul notwithstanding), Israel’s pro-democracy civil society is fighting for equality, justice, and democracy for all. Join us for a Shabbat morning with Mickey Gitzin, the New Israel Fund’s Israel Director, to learn more about this crisis moment and how NIF is empowering activists and organizations to respond. Now more than ever, it is vital to support the people working on the ground to defend democracy and protect human rights.

NIF is proud to be collaborating with Temple Beth Zion to allow our community to hear from Mickey during this critical time in Israel’s history. Services begin at 10:00am Saturday morning and Mickey will speak before musaf at around noon, and anyone who would like to is welcome to continue the conversation over Kiddush lunch. TBZ is happy to welcome anyone from our community of supporters who would like to join. Please  reach out to boston@nif.org if you have any questions.Mickey Gitzin is the Director of the New Israel Fund in Israel. Prior to joining NIF, Mickey was the founding director of “Israel Hofsheet” (Be Free Israel), a leading grassroots organization fighting for separation of religion and state in Israel. Previously, Mickey was the spokesperson for MK Ilan Gilon (Meretz) and the Associate Director of “Festival BeShekel,” an organization advancing arts and culture in Israel’s geographic and socioeconomic periphery. After completing his military service as an intelligence officer, he served as a shaliach (emissary) in South Bend, Indiana for the Jewish Agency for Israel. Mickey holds a Master’s in Public Policy from University College-London, for which he received a Chevening Scholarship from the British Foreign Office and the British Council. In 2013, Mickey received NIF UK’s Human Rights Award, and in 2015, NIF’s Gallanter Prize for Emerging Israeli Social Justice Leaders.
