HIAS Weekend: An Evening of Music with Belle Linda Halpern

February 3, 2024
7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Co-Sponsored by Congregation Beth El Sudbury. TBZ Member Belle Linda Halpern, accompanied by pianist Ron Roy, celebrates the Centennial of her teacher, Martha Schlamme. Belle studied with Martha from the age of 14 until Martha’s death in 1985.

Martha fled Austria for London in 1938, immigrated to the US in 1947, and benefited from
HIAS herself. She made 16 albums of songs in 12 languages, and later in life became known as
a Kurt Weil singer, and played Golda on Broadway. Martha was famous for singing “songs of
many lands” and sang with Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson.

Martha spent her whole life giving concerts benefiting immigrants to this country. Belle Linda
is thrilled to continue that legacy!

This event will be a fundraiser, with all proceeds going to HIAS.

To attend concert and/or coffeehouse, RSVP HERE.
