Kiddush Talk: Hasia Diner: The Legacy of Julius Rosenwald and Repairing the World (in person)

January 24, 2026
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Join TBZ member Dr. Hasia Diner to explore the life and lessons of Julius Rosenwald (1862–1932). He rose from modest means to meteoric wealth at the helm of Sears, Roebuck. Yet his most important legacy stands on the pioneering changes he introduced to the practice of philanthropy. While few now recall Rosenwald’s name—he refused to have it attached to the buildings, projects, or endowments he supported—his passionate support of Jewish and African American causes continues to influence lives to this day. Join Hasia to consider how we can use his life as a model for how we use our gifts and talents to impact the world around us.

Hasia R. Diner is an American historian. Diner is the Paul S. and Sylvia Steinberg Professor of American Jewish History; Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies, History; Director of the Goldstein-Goren Center for American Jewish History at New York University[1] and Interim Director of Glucksman Ireland House NYU.[2]
