Preparing for Pesach with Artist-in-Residence Gabriella Spitzer
Using the forthcoming Haggadah Min HaMeitzar (www.gabriellaspitzer.com/haggadah-min-hameitzar), we will prepare for Passover with original art, fresh Torah, and a new haggadah! Scholar and artist Gabriella Spitzer will bring original haggadah art, engaging Torah study, and a craft project to TBZ! Haggadah Min HaMeitzar uses a full, traditional liturgy with new, progressive commentary and art. It is designed to provide discussion topics and prompts for your seders for years to come! The program will include:
10:00am: Haggadah text study
11:00am: Art gallery tour in the Community Room
Noon: Family-friendly Pesach craft project (kids not required!)
Gabriella Spitzer is an environmental planner and visual artist based in Boston, M, working at the intersection of climate change, “natural” disasters, risk communication, and land use policy and planning. Their art reflects their deep commitment to grappling with Jewish text and tradition, Jewish and queer social justice traditions, and the Torah of the natural world. They work in a variety of media, including silk paints on silk, acrylics on canvas, watercolors on paper and other surfaces, and mixed media. Gabriella is the author and artist of Haggadah Min HaMeitzar, to be published by Ben Yehudah Press in spring 2023. The haggadah, like their art generally, provides a queer and environmental voice in rooted in deep relationship with text and tradition. Haggadot, as well as original prints from the haggadah, will be for sale.
