The Tent: A Jewish Learning Community for Greater Boston Teens at Temple Israel.
We’re thrilled to announce that our teen program, Monday Night School, has a new name. One of the most exciting parts of this past year has been the piloting of a communal model for teen education. We entered into partnership with two neighbors, Temple Israel of Boston and Congregation Kehillath Israel of Brookline and created a pluralistic learning community. We are excited to integrate our teens into the larger group under the “Tent”, to make new friends, experience synagogue cultures, and to learn from incredible clergy and faculty from the Brookline area.

Our new name helps us tell the story of our new direction. “The Tent” describes the warmth of our community; our students feel welcome here. It stands for our openness to ideas and ways of learning about our Jewish lives, and for our openness to any teen in Greater Boston who wants to join us. “The Tent” says that we are strong yet flexible – even the busiest teens can make a home in some part of the Tent. It also says that we’re portable, and indeed The Tent can set up not only at TI, but at TBZ, KI, and who knows where else!

With our amazing teachers and wide variety of electives, our award-winning classes Our Whole Lives (for the 8th grade fall) and TIKKUN: To Take on the World, our first-ever Boston-Haifa Connection class and Israel travel exchange, and more on the horizon, there’s truly something for everyone in The Tent. Join us! We look forward to seeing you in September.

The Tent is hosted at Temple Israel on Monday evenings, with 5:45pm dinner followed by two class options (6:40-7:30 and 7:40-8:30). The teens will choose their classes from a diverse array –Rav Claudia will be teaching in the fall with Rabbi Suzie Jacobson and leading an exchange program for juniors to Haifa in the winter.

Monday Night School tuition is $900 for the year for TBZ members and is subsidized in part by TBZ. To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/TBZTent.  For frequently asked questions about the Tent, click here.
