SUMMARY:The Fragility of Democracy: The Rise of the Nazis and its Lessons f
 or Today with Jan Darsa
DESCRIPTION:The Fragility of Democracy: The Rise of the Nazis and its Lesso
ns for Today with Jan Darsa\n\nThrough Hebrew College’s Open Circle\, Tu
 esday evenings on-line via Zoom\, 7:30-9:00pm: \n\nOctober 19\, 26\; Novem
 ber 2\, 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\; December 7\, 2021\n\nThis course will address t
he historical case study of the rise of Nazism and the Holocaust with a co
nnection to current issues we are facing in our own country during these c
hallenging times. Although this course does not make a direct analogy betw
een what is happening now in the U.S. (i.e.\, suppression of voting rights
\, the marginalization of "the other" and lies told and being accepted as
truths)\, to what happened in Germany in the 1920’s and 30’s\, there a
re parallels. In looking at the slow and insidious rise of a totalitarian
regime and the subsequent genocide\, we will explore the warning signs and
develop an understanding of how our own choices can help make a differenc
 e in today's world.\n\nFee: $144 (Generous financial scholarships availabl
 e)\n\nRegister: https://tinyurl.com/JDarsaFragility\n\nJan Darsa is former
