SUMMARY:Kiddush Talk: Ready to Turn the World Upside Down: Jewish Women and
the Remarkable Achievements of Radical Feminism with Joyce Antler
DESCRIPTION:Ready to Turn the World Upside Down: \nJewish Women and the Re
markable Achievements of Radical Feminism\nJewish women were instrumental
in shaping the women’s liberation movement of the late twentieth century
.  But historians and participants themselves have neglected their contr
ibutions as Jews\, a consequence of the women’s focus on gender and ethn
ic universalism\, and the effects of external and internal anti-Semitism\,
denial\, and self-censorship. This talk reveals the deep influence of Je
wish background and values upon these fierce pioneers\, as well as those
who participated in the later Jewish feminist movement that fought gender
inequities in Jewish religious and secular life.
