SUMMARY:Brookline Community Selichot (LATE) (in person and online)
DESCRIPTION:Co-sponsored by TBZ Brookline\, Minyan Shaleym\, Congregation K
ehilath Israel\, Nehar Shalom and Congregation Mishkan Tefila.\nJoin us fo
r a soulful beginning to the High Holy Days with an evening of meditation\
, learning\, and inspiring prayer featuring our teacher TBZ Member Rabbi O
r Rose.\nAt TBZ (in person and online)\n9:30-10:15pm Nishmat Hayyim (Brea
th of Life) Meditation\n10:30-11:30pm Learning with Rabbi Or Rose: Of Sham
en &amp\; Shofarot: Hasidic &amp\; Neo-Hasidic Tales\nJoin us as we explo
re two narratives about the transformative power of sounding the shofar. O
ne comes from the dream diary of the early Hasidic master\, Rabbi Moshe Ha
yyim Ephraim of Sudilkov (Degel Mahaneh Ephraim\, d. 1800)\, the other fr
 om the contemporary Neo-Hasidic leader\, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi (R
eb Zalman\, d. 2014). In these dramatic episodes\, the protagonists share
with us unexpected encounters with spiritual figures that transform their
experiences by sounding the shofar and shifting their understandings of th
e nature of teshuvah (spiritual and ethical "return"). Together\, these st
ories (including a vivid description of a journey into the hollow of the r
am’s horn!) offer us compelling material for reflection and discussion a
s we prepare for the Yamim Nora’im and the call of the shofar.\nRabbi Or
Rose\, a proud TBZ member\, is the founding Director of the Betty Ann Gre
enbaum Miller Center for Interreligious Learning &amp\; Leadership of Hebr
ew College and a senior consultant to Interfaith America. Rabbi Rose is th
 e co-editor of With the Best of Intentions: Interreligious Missteps &amp\;
Mistakes (Orbis\, 2023) and Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi: Essential Tea
chings (Orbis\, 2020). His forthcoming biography for teen readers\, My Leg
s Were Praying: A Biography of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel will be publis
hed in the winter of 2025 by Monkfish.\n11:30pm Selichot led by Rabbi Ebn
Leader and the TBZ Davening Team
