Hesed: Supporting Our Community
Hesed is the Hebrew word for “acts of loving-kindness.” TBZ’s Hesed Committee is charged with the task of performing acts of lovingkindness – taking care of members of our community. To this end, within our community we carefully attend to:
- Welcoming Newborn Babies
- Dor l’Dor: Connecting Generations
- Bikur Cholim: Visiting the Sick
- Nehum Avelim: Comforting the Bereaved
- Bikur Haverim: Visiting Friends in Need
At TBZ, members are encouraged to engage with each other to create a Hesed community where we support each other when illness or death impacts our lives. TBZ encourages each of our members to think about one type of mitzvah that each of us can perform. Taken together, these mitzvot become the mortar of our community. Through providing visits, food, and rides to those experiencing illness or by making a phone call to someone who no longer is able to attend services but wants to remain connected to our community, we actively support each other in the spirit of Hesed. All requests for Hesed are kept strictly confidential and treated with the utmost respect. During the past year the Hesed Community has grown significantly. We would love to see its continued growth. By joining the Hesed Community you have an opportunity to gain a special sense of fulfillment by offering support to others in the TBZ Community when they are most vulnerable.
