Volunteer for Shabbat
Two ways to volunteer, one simple way to sign up for them.
Join us to make Friday night Oneg and Saturday afternoon Kiddush community events that embody the spirit of Shabbat. Volunteering is easy:
- For each Oneg or Kiddush, there is a small team consisting of a Team Leader (someone who has performed the task several times before) and one or more Team Members (individuals who have only performed the tasks a few times before, or not at all, who will learn from the leader).
- For Friday night Oneg, the team leader and one team member arrive by 5:30pm for set-up, and then stay to clean-up after Oneg (this should take about 15 minutes). It is also possible to volunteer for clean-up only. This too, is a great help (and it may allow the Oneg Leader to leave early, while you can arrive late).
- For Saturday Kiddush, the team leader and team members arrive at 9 am. Team members are free to leave at 10 am for services, or may choose to stay if the Team Leader has not finished. We employ an accommodator who does the cleanup.
Or help us to welcome and assist fellow congregants during Shabbat Services
The TBZ Community is warm and inclusive. Just as friends welcome one another to their homes, we want to welcome community members to Shabbat at our shul. To extend a warm welcome:
- Say hello, welcome, Shabbat Shalom – whatever is comfortable for you
- Wear your name tag – people love it when they don’t have to struggle to remember someone’s name
- Join the service yourself – you don’t need to be in a chair to participate
- Let guests know where we are in the service…”We’re on page XX”
- Wait for community members at the main doors to the synagogue until the number of incoming people declines and then join the service
- On Friday nights, hand each person a Siddur and ask they return them to the drawer at the end of services
- Help guests find Kippot &/or Tallitot if they want them – they are on and in the cabinet to the left of the doors
Check the materials on the cabinets in the lobby so you can answer question and provide community members with information – as a bonus you my learn about upcoming events you want to attend .
