Stories of the Talmud with Rav Claudia
Wednesdays, February 15, 22, 29 at 7:30pm
As opposed to popular conception the Talmud is not only a book of laws. It is a wondrous literary creation where rules, debates, life stories and fiction merge into a web of meaning. In this course we will look at some of the stories from the Talmudic discussion and see how they use this form as another way to think about and create meaning in life.
This class is opened to all TBZ members. People who participated in last year Stories of the Talmud class are encouraged to join again as we will learn NEW stories!

Women’s Study Group with Rav Claudia
Wednesday, Oct 26, 7:30 – 9:00 PM in the chapel
For TBZ members only unless special arrangements have been made.
The women’s study group will continue meeting once a month to explore together issues of gender and Judaism. This year we will focus specifically on liturgy and other Jewish texts. We will discuss how gender language influences our understandings of tradition, and how Jewish feminism deals with these texts. We explore texts we encounter weekly in our services so that we may have a better understanding of these. Women will have the opportunity to study the text t together, and struggle with issues relating to our status and the place we are creating for ourselves.
In our first class we will focus on the stories of Creation, Bereshit as we begin the new cycle of reading the Torah with special attention on how the narrative of the creation of humankind shaped the roles played by men and women. We will look into different commentaries to grapple with these texts.
We need 10 committed students for the class to be held. Please email tbzadultlearning@gmail.com if you are planning to attend.
Save the following dates for Women’s Study Groups and register for all of them online at www.tbzbrookline.org/registration
