As we finish end our 5773 academic year, we have the wonderful opportunity to reflect both personally and communally on the year – How did your family engage Jewishly this year? Were you regulars on Shabbat? Did your child attend Beit Rabban? Did you attend an adult learning session during a holiday program? Were you a member of the Mishpachot committee? Did you attend the Community Retreat?

As a community, TBZ is committed to building programming, educational opportunities and ritual moments that are meaningful for all. We want to plan for an even deeper, more meaningful, more powerful program next year. But we, the rabbis, the educators, the lay leadership, need everyone’s help and buy-in. What events did you attend this year? What moved you? What taught you something new? What needs work?

In the following pages you will find a comprehensive survey of all mishpachot programming this year. You will only respond to questions relating to programs and events you attended this past year. This survey will take you 10- 30 minutes, depending upon your involvement. We thank you for your patience, commitment to TBZ and partnership as we will build for the future!

You can find the survey HERE. Please fill it at your earliest convenience!

KESHET’S TRANS DAY OF CELEBRATION

May 19, 2013 at 5:00 pm | Price: Free
KEHILLATH ISRAEL
384 Harvard Street
Brookiine, Massachusetts

Whether you’re transgender or an ally, join us in a special moment to rejoice in who we are! Join us as we eat (bring a dish if you can!) and share our journeys together in a celebration of where we have come from and who we are. Later in the evening, we’ll open the floor for an open mic to showcase our talented community members. For more information on joining the open mic or to get involved, contact dan@keshetonline.org

We’re also proud to present Schmekel, a prominent force in the Brooklyn, NY transcore scene. Mixing traditional klezmer scales with punk sensibilities, Schmekel (which means “little penis” in Yiddish), challenges listeners to think critically about Judaism, queerness, and the sounds that accompany both. Schmekel’s humor inspires audiences to laugh and dance wildly! Read an interview with the members of Schmekel on the Keshet blog!

Free Admission but RSVP to get on the Guest List.

The Torah of Food
with Rabbi Natan and Ilana Margalit
Mondays, June 3 and June 10, 7:00 – 9:00 PM

Co-sponsored by the Adult Learning Committee, the Tikun Olam Group, and the Spiritual Life Committee

If feeding ourselves and our families well were simple we would all just do it, and a whole industry of quick-fix food advice would be out of business. People, especially Jews, have complicated relationships with food. We yearn for creative ways to explore our relationships with food.

In this two part interactive workshop we will draw from Jewish wisdom and modern insights to make eating a healthier, holier, and sustainable experience for you and your family. From the practical to the mystical to the ethical, please join us on this journey into the Torah of food.

Next year we plan to offer further study and opoortunities to become active for eco-consciousness.
