Oneg Committee

The Oneg/Kiddush Committee, abbreviated as the O/K committee is far from “okay,” it is great!

The O/K Committee

We are comprised of volunteers who are on-hand to be Kiddush Leaders and to help team members with Oneg and Kiddush preparation.  We are also responsible for stocking our kitchen with the food and supplies we use on a regular basis. Recently, we contracted a vendor who delivers many of these staples, like the eggs and tuna that we have come to love and enjoy at Kiddush. As a team, we cook together, chop together, share recipes, and schmooze while we work. We are hoping that you too, will join us in the kitchen and contribute to the TBZ community, while having some fun.

What’s involved?

Friday Night Oneg’s. Usually two people come to shul at 5:30 PM to put out trays of cookies, fruit, cheese and crackers, drinks, and other treats. The Oneg team also sets up the table for the blessings over the challah and the wine, and often (but, not always) pours the wine and grape juice for Kiddush. We cleanup the community hall at about 8:00 PM. This may take about fifteen minutes.

To participate, we ask a minimal commitment of volunteering once every month to do set-up and usually, but not necessarily, clean-up the same evening. You may sign up on the calendar to reserve dates that are convenient for you. If you team up with a friend, you can divide the set up and clean up. This comes in handy if one person is able to arrive early, while the other can stay late.

Putting out the food and drinksfor the Oneg is great fun and a well-appreciated service to the community.

Not a balaboosta? It’s Okay!

Kiddush. Volunteers are teamed up with experienced Kiddush Leaders who will have a planned menu, recipes, and all of the food ready to be chopped, diced, sliced, arranged, and admired.

So come… make a little salad, chop a few vegetables, and put out some lovely desserts…and when you’re done, our Saturday facilitator will do all the clean-up. It’s a simple and fun way to be a part of TBZ, be among friends, and build community.

We need your help

We are actively recruiting more TBZ members to join the O/K committee and/or to volunteer. Are you ready to have some fun and be of service to the Friday evening and Saturday morning shul attendees? If so, sign up and get to know other TBZer’s while preparing great food.
