Community

Being a member of Temple Beth Zion means continuously striving to create akehillah kedoshah, a holy community, within our shul, within Klal Yisrael, and for the entire World – v’al kol yoshvei teyvel. Our kehillah kedoshah – indeed, the entire World – rests equally on the ”Reality” of Torah, and the practice of ”Self-Emptying Prayer & Meditation,” and our vigorous commitment to gemilut hasidim – to ”Love in Action.” We study and pray and meditate together; and yet our spiritual growth and tranformation require that we act together, too.

Social Action Committees & Programs

At TBZ, we focus our “Love in Action” in three areas :

Tikkun Olam: World Connections. Our tradition demands that each of us work to bring about olam haba – a perfect world to come – by lessening the incidence and burdens of poverty; by speaking out against injustice and discrimination; and by shaping a more caring society and a more peaceful world. At TBZ, or social action programs include our work with the Greater Boston Inferfaith Organization, the JF&CS Family Table, and the Literacy Project.

Hesed: Shul Connections. TBZ provides sacred opportunities for all members to solidify the bonds of friendship, love and community; to welcome visitors and new members; and to support one another through life’s joys and oys.”

Tzedakah: Support Our Work. Without the financial support of our members and our friends in the community, TBZ’s commitment to gemilut hasidim — love in action — will not succeed. You can help us bring about that more perfect world to come by assisting with our fund-raising efforts.

If you would like to participate in any of these programs please contact the Hesed Committee.
